Frank Furness designed Happy Creek Farm for Charles C. Harrison in 1890/91. Harrison was the President of the Franklin Sugar Refining Company and part of the firm of Harrison, Frazier, & Company. He would later go on to become Provost of the University of Pennsylvania.

Harrison had a rather complicated relationship with Furness. In addition to this, Harrison’s summer residence, Furness would design the Franklin Sugar Company’s office (here) at 125 S. 12th Street but Harrison’s experience of Furness during this time would lead to Harrison firing him as the University of Pennsylvania architect (see here and here) and writing, that Furness is “intensely interested in his own ideas about architectural views” and that “as I was obliged to raise the money, I would like architects with whom I could work happily.”

The entrance to Provost Harrison’s place is a on a simple country road, which has been little changed since old St. David’s Church, near-by, was young. A massive stone gate-way, without gates, introduces to a wood, where a macadamized road winds through a grove, and bursts out into an open view, as the house, which is not visible from the highway, presents itself. The high situation is one of those fine locations in which this section abounds, and lovely scenery is on every side. A large hall, with its stairway and fireplace and high clock, runs through the dwelling, and a piazza opens on the rear.

Miriam Ascarelli, in “Independent Vision: Dorothy Harrison Eustis and the Story of the Seeing Eye”, suggests that perhaps it was time spent at Happy Creek Farm that would spark Dorothy Harrison Eustis, Charles Harrison’s youngest daughter, to become interested in animals and go on to her founding of The Seeing Eye for training dogs to lead the blind.

Designed in 1882 by Frank Furness as Petersburg Station for the Reading and Columbia Railroad branch of the Reading Railroad. It was later named East Petersburg Station and in 1960 was purchased, moved in nine stages and reassembled board for board, and renamed East Strasburg Station by the Strasburg Railroad. Today the station is still in use as departure point for the tourist short line, taking passengers between Strasburg and Paradise and back.
